Code: 4302        Date: Saturday 16 January 2010
The share of mining sector in GDP is standing at 29% and including exports in this section, the total share will reach to 30%," IMIDRO's PR quoted a university professor.

Addressing the audiences in the second conference on Mining and Mineral Industries role in Iran's economy, Dr. Kazem Oreiee noted:

"According to undertaken studies, the rate of economic growth in recent years in Iran was largely due to the growth of mining industries."

"According to the evaluations undertaken based on Central Bank's data, the rate of GDP in the country accounts for $ 74 billion, while $ 32 billion is spent in the same section. The production value of mining section is estimated to be $ 22 billion, while its cost has been $ 6.4 billion," he said referring to the profitability of mining section.

He added that in a bid to reach 5% economic growth, creation of 15 % growth in the mining industry will be sufficient. For achieving this 15 %, the resources assigned to the mining sector should be increased up to 4/4 %.

Signaling that Iran holds one percentage of world’s population and three percent of mineral resources, Dr. Oreiee said: “For mineralization there should be a growth in mining industry and essential sources should be considered.”

“The total investment in Iran’s economy stands at $ 69 billion meanwhile the rate of investment in mining section is merely $ 400 million and the figure should be enhanced,” the professor said.
